Philadelphia 76ers head coach,
Nick Nurse, shared some new information about the team's main player health,
Joel Embiid, who underwent surgery on his left knee back in February. Coach expressed feeling optimisitic about Joel's progress, and so are the teams doctors so far.
Nick Nurse shared this with the media before his team victory against the Charlotte Hornets on Saturday Night:
"There is never a linear progression in these cases," Coach Nurse said. "Everyone recovers differently. We're taking things one step at a time, prioritizing Joel's health and making sure he returns when he's fully ready to do so."
Nurse shared his thoughts on Embiid's recovery process, explaining that recovery from this type of injury is usually gradual and varies from individual to individual. When asked when Embiid might return to the team, Nurse preferred to be cautious and not mention a specific date, but expressed his hope and confidence that he could return before the start of the playoffs.
"I'm looking forward to it and I'm pretty confident it will happen," Nurse added regarding Embiid's return before the end of the regular season.
Uncertainty about Embiid's return has been the subject of speculation since a medical update from the team was not provided yet, four weeks after surgery. Despite optimistic statements from the player, the lack of official information raised questions about the progress of his rehab.
Since being injured on Jan. 30 against Golden State, Embiid has been out of action for 21 games, and his absence has had a significant impact on the team's performance. The Sixers have experienced a decline in their spot in the Eastern Conference, dropping from third place to seventh during his absence, with an 8-13 record in games played without the NBA MVP of the 2022-2023 season.
Despite his injury, Embiid has remained an active figure on the team, as he showed by greeting his teammates on the court after the win against Charlotte. However, the player was not present in the team's locker room when reporters were granted access after the game.
