In this Sunday afternoon premier showdown in the NBA, the
Dallas Mavericks received the visit of the reigning champions
Denver Nuggets.
Luka Doncic returned after missing out last game with a hamstring injury.
Jamal Murray scored 12 points in the fourth to recover from a double-digit deficit but
Kyrie Irving took the matter into his own hands to make an extremely difficult shot over Jokic in the last second of this amazing thriller.
In an incredible fashion, the Dallas Mavericks surpassed the Denver Nuggets in a true nail-biter that wasn't decided up until the Kyrie Irvings last shot. Luka Doncic was also a factor in the Mavs victory leading his team with 37 points.
A very close game from start to finish, with both teams exchanging the lead in the scoreboard twelve times throughout all periods.
The Nuggets took an early lead and went to halftime winning 61-58. However, Dallas make the best out of their third quarter, overcoming that deficit, with the offense firing at all cillinders.
Finally everything came down to the final quarter, where Denver found itself down 13 points but started a comeback led by the hands of Jamal Murray, who scored 12 points including a clutch three to tie the game. But in a day full of clutch shots, Kyrie Iriving had his own after the inbound to finally seal the local win.
Luka was awesome as usual. recording 37 points, 9 rebounds and 3 assists. Kyrie Irving finished with 24 points, 9 assists and 7 rebounds, doing a little bit of everything on the court. Derrick Jones Jr was huge on the offensive glass, grabbing 6 offensive rebounds.
Jamal Murray had 23 points, hitting some very difficult shots.
Nikola Jokic was quiet tonight, scoring 16 points, 11 rebounds and 7 assists.
Dallas team effort was huge to overcome one of the best teams in the NBA. The Mavs move up to the 7th spot and with a record of 38-29 are now just one victory away of the Sacramento Kings. They will be playing again on Tuesday, at San Antonio against the Spurs.
Denver's poor third quarter scoring was the decisive factor for them to lose this one. The Nuggets are tied in the Western first spot with OKC, with a 47-20 record. Their next game will be on Tuesday, visiting their immediate chasers, the Minnesota Timberwolves.
