The Boston Celtics have had an historic season this year, they cruised the whole campaign being the best team in the NBA by a considerable margin and now, with just a few games left until the beginning of the playoffs, they don't want to stop. "I'm only thinking in June", said Jrue Holiday and it reflects how incredible it was his impact with less than a year since his arrival.
Jrue Holiday has been a natural leader nearly since his rookie days. Him going to Milwaukee was the missing piece for Giannis and his squad to win their first ring in 50 years. However after falling in love with the city he was traded to the Boston Celtics last summer, after being just for a few hours member of the Portland Trail Blazers, product of a blockbuster trade that landed Damian Lillard with the Bucks.
The 33-year-old point guard has been looking like the missing piece at Boston as well. He's shooting 43% from three-point range and he's still able to lock-down the opponents offensive threat. Being added to an already powerful team made the Celtics the undisputed best team throughout this campaign. In Boston, he has guarded everyone from Donovan Mitchell to Julius Randle and Joel Embiid. "Where I came from (Milwaukee), we kinda did one or two different things. But here, any type of defense you can think of, we’ve probably done it,” Holiday said. “Just thinking the game, just trying to look at the game and think it differently."
In the Point Forward Podcast, hosted by Andre Iguodala and Evan Turner, two of Holiday's former teammates back in his rookie days in Philly, Jrue joked about the possibility of an anticipated retirement. But after clearing that it was just to mess with the rest of Boston's squad, he admitted to have no intentions to stop playing anytime soon.
While he understood the reasons of his trade and having to leave Milwaukee after three seasons and a championship there, he has stated that it could have been handled differently. Still, Jrue feels no differently, about a the Bucks and a potential matchup against his former team, no extra juice. He's been thinking about June since he arrived to Massachusetts. "I want to beat them, because I want to win another chip."
