The Clippers suffered a tough loss to the young and hungry
OKC Thunder last night, so tonight was a bounce back game from this squad. They
faced off against an injury-riddled Grizzlies team and completely took
advantage.
Kawhi Leonard led the way, carrying the
Los Angeles Clippers
to a 101-95 victory over the
Memphis Grizzlies at FedExForum. The Klaw proved
why he’s one of the best players in the NBA and a 2-time Finals MVP who’s
hoping to earn his third at the end of this season.
The 6-time All-Star had 24 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists, 3
steals, and 1 block tonight, filling up the stat sheet. Terrance Mann followed
in his footsteps, ending with 23 points and 12 rebounds.
Paul George struggled
with only 14 points and
James Harden had an inefficient night, shooting 1/8 for
only 9 points. Russell Westbrook had 13 points off the bench and Ivica Zubac
had 10 points and 10 boards.
For the Memphis, Jaren Jackson Jr. had a team-high 29 points
to go along with 4 rebounds, 5 assists, and 4 steals. Ziaire Williams finished
with 10 points while rookie GG Jackson came off the bench and scored 11 points.
This win improves the Clippers to 37-18, which makes them 3rd
in the tough Western Conference. LA is now 1.5 games behind the 2nd seeded Thunder
and 0.5 games above the 4th seeded Nuggets. They are 7-3 over their last 10
games and will look to build off this victory when they play the Sacramento
Kings on Sunday night.
On the other hand, this loss drops the Grizzlies to 20-37,
which makes them 13th in the Western Conference. This seems like a lost season
for Memphis due to injuries and they will hope to develop their young talent
while adding more assets this offseason to make a playoff push next year. Their
next game will be on Monday night against the Brooklyn Nets.
