Kyle Lowry was traded from the
Miami Heat to the
Charlotte Hornets on Tuesday after several seasons of lackluster work from the aging guard. When the trade was announced, inside reporting said that the Hornets planned to move him to another team before the February 8 trade deadline.
However, Lowry's current plans are murky right now and there is a chance that shipping him out to another franchise could prove very difficult for the Hornets.
Lowry is 37 years old and age has caught up with him in many ways. Now in his 18th season, the guard was producing just 8.2 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 4 assists per game before he got traded.
Lowry's contract has him set to become an unrestricted free agent in the summer, meaning he'd have the ability to head anywhere else in the NBA, but which teams would want to sign him?
Because of his age and his injuries, many franchises across the league could be hesitant to get Lowry. Additionally, the new Collective Bargaining Agreement prohibits multiple teams from signing him because of salary and tax issues.
Lowry has said that he'd love to return to the Toronto Raptors and end his career there. He spent nine seasons playing for that team and earned multiple All-Star appearances and a championship with the team. However, it remains to be seen if that team will want to sign him, even for a short time.
