The
Los Angeles Lakers clearly need to make some big changes in the near future, as they currently hold a meager 22-22 record and sit as the ninth seed in the Western Conference.
There are a number of trades they could make before the upcoming February 8 deadline but recent reporting says they might bring a former teammate back.
ESPN's Dave McMenamin reported on Tuesday that the Lakers have considered trading for
Chicago Bulls big man
Andre Drummond.
The Lakers believe that Drummond could be a huge help to the team and they also have a history with him. He spent some time with LA back in 2021, playing in purple and gold for just 21 games and averaging 11.9 points and 10.2 rebounds.
This season, Drummond is recording 7.6 points and 8.4 rebounds for the Bulls and has seen a resurgence of skills. Even if the Lakers don't take him, he could be a valuable trade assets for the Bulls soon.
Drummond, a four-time rebounding leader in the league, would be a cheap contract for the Lakers. That means they'd be able to land him and still make some other acquisitions too. If he were able to perform in Los Angeles as he has been in Chicago, he could greatly help the team's frontcourt and take some of the pressure off of Anthony Davis.
Drummond is just 30 years old but has had a hard time finding a long-term home in the league. Since leaving the Lakers in 2021, he has played for three other teams.
The Lakers need to improve their roster in a number of ways. Drummond wouldn't solve all their problems but he could greatly help them improve their defensive woes.
