LeBron James returned after a two game absence and he didn't miss a beat, as he led the Los Angeles Lakers to a 123-118 victory over the San Antonio Spurs at Crypto Arena. In his postgame interview, the 4-time MVP spoke about how he's feeling as well as the historic game by rising star Victor Wembanyama.
When asked about how his body is doing after playing 34 minutes, the future Hall of Famer stated that he felt good and that he was more surprised by how well his wind was. The 4-time champion was sidelined with an ankle injury but he gave it a chance tonight and ultimately led his team to a victory.
The 20-time All-Star mentioned that at the end of the day, he was happy to be out there and help his team win, as that's the most important thing in his mind. James was then asked about the outstanding play by unicorn Victor Wembanyama.
Wemby made history tonight, becoming the youngest player to ever record a 5x5 game, and the first to do it since 2019. He's been viewed as the best prospect in NBA history and tonight is an example of why he deserved all the hype.
The King said that Wemby does not have a ceiling, simply because he can do it all on both sides of the court. He then followed that up by tweeting “That kid is SPECIAL”.
The King showed his experience and basketball IQ in this game as he led his team to victory with 30 points, 7 rebounds, and 9 assists. Anthony Davis had 28 points and 13 rebounds while D’Angelo Russell scored 22 points.
On the other hand, Victor Wembanyama dominated with his historic performance, recording a stat line of 27 points, 10 rebounds, 8 assists, 5 steals, and 5 blocks.
This win improves the Lakers to 31-27 on the season, making them the 9th seed in the West. They are currently 3 games behind the Mavs for the 6th seed and 4.5 games above the Jazz for the 11th seed, so as of now they seem locked in for the play-in tournament. LA is 7-3 over their last 10 games and will look to build off this win on Sunday when they face off against the Phoenix Suns.
