The
Sacramento Kings were snubbed of All-Stars, as their
dynamic duo of
Domantas Sabonis and De’Aaron Fox did not participate this
weekend in Indiana despite having solid play. On the other hand, rookie Victor
Wembanyama participated and all eyes were on him, as he played in the Rising
Stars tournament as well as the Skills Challenge.
In tonight’s matchup, the veteran big man for Sacramento wanted
to prove a point and showcase why he deserved to be an All-Star. Both big men
played amazing, but in the end Domantas Sabonis led the Kings to a narrow
127-122 victory over the
San Antonio Spurs at Golden 1 Center.
Domas recorded another triple double tonight, finishing with
22 points, 11 rebounds, and 11 assists on 73% shooting. Co-star De’Aaron Fox
had a great night as well, ending with 28 points and 9 assists. The 2023 Clutch
Player of the Year sealed the deal tonight, blocking Devin Vassell on his drive
to the paint and then hitting a dagger pullup jumper all within the final
minute of the game.
Kevin Huerter scored 21 points with 5 made threes while
Malik Monk came off the bench and also scored 21 points. Keegan Murray had 16
points on 60% shooting tonight.
For the Spurs,
Victor Wembanyama stuffed the stat sheet and
nearly recorded a 5x5 game. He finished with 19 points, 13 rebounds, 4 assists,
5 steals, and 5 blocks. He’s proving to be a dominant 2-way player in his
rookie year and the sky is the limit for his future.
Devin Vassell had a team high 32 points while Keldon Johnson
recorded 18 points off the bench. Jeremy Sochan ended with 16 points and 8
rebounds.
This win improves the Kings to 32-23, which makes them 8th
in the Western Conference. Sacramento is now 0.5 games behind the 7th seeded Suns
and 3 games above the 9th seeded Lakers. They are 5-5 over their last 10 games and
currently on a 2-game winning streak. Their next game will be on Sunday night
against the Los Angeles Clippers.
Meanwhile, this loss drops the Spurs to 11-45. The team’s
goal for the rest of this season will be to continue developing Wemby and
hoping to add more talent around him for next season. San Antonio is 1-9 over
their last 10 games and currently on a 2-game losing streak. Their next game
will be tomorrow night against the Los Angeles Lakers.
