The Sacramento Kings were snubbed of All-Stars, as their dynamic duo of Domantas Sabonis and De’Aaron Fox did not participate this weekend in Indiana despite having solid play. On the other hand, rookie Victor Wembanyama participated and all eyes were on him, as he played in the Rising Stars tournament as well as the Skills Challenge.
In tonight’s matchup, the veteran big man for Sacramento wanted to prove a point and showcase why he deserved to be an All-Star. Both big men played amazing, but in the end Domantas Sabonis led the Kings to a narrow 127-122 victory over the San Antonio Spurs at Golden 1 Center.
Domas recorded another triple double tonight, finishing with 22 points, 11 rebounds, and 11 assists on 73% shooting. Co-star De’Aaron Fox had a great night as well, ending with 28 points and 9 assists. The 2023 Clutch Player of the Year sealed the deal tonight, blocking Devin Vassell on his drive to the paint and then hitting a dagger pullup jumper all within the final minute of the game.
Kevin Huerter scored 21 points with 5 made threes while Malik Monk came off the bench and also scored 21 points. Keegan Murray had 16 points on 60% shooting tonight.
For the Spurs, Victor Wembanyama stuffed the stat sheet and nearly recorded a 5x5 game. He finished with 19 points, 13 rebounds, 4 assists, 5 steals, and 5 blocks. He’s proving to be a dominant 2-way player in his rookie year and the sky is the limit for his future.
Devin Vassell had a team high 32 points while Keldon Johnson recorded 18 points off the bench. Jeremy Sochan ended with 16 points and 8 rebounds.
This win improves the Kings to 32-23, which makes them 8th in the Western Conference. Sacramento is now 0.5 games behind the 7th seeded Suns and 3 games above the 9th seeded Lakers. They are 5-5 over their last 10 games and currently on a 2-game winning streak. Their next game will be on Sunday night against the Los Angeles Clippers.
Meanwhile, this loss drops the Spurs to 11-45. The team’s goal for the rest of this season will be to continue developing Wemby and hoping to add more talent around him for next season. San Antonio is 1-9 over their last 10 games and currently on a 2-game losing streak. Their next game will be tomorrow night against the Los Angeles Lakers.
