Following a devastating loss on a night where LeBron James made history, the Los Angeles Lakers bounced back and defeated the top seed Oklahoma City Thunder 116-104 at Crypto.com Arena behind a monster Anthony Davis performance.
The Lakers are fighting to make the playoffs, as currently they sit in the play-in race and would have to win 2 tournament games just to make the postseason. It’s been another struggle of a season for LA but they were able to make a Western Conference Finals appearance last season after starting off as a play-in team so they know that as long as they reach the playoffs, anything is possible.
Their success is based on their dynamic duo of LeBron James and Anthony Davis. Tonight, it was AD who took over, as he finished with 24 points, 12 rebounds, and 3 blocks on 58% shooting. The King ended with 19 points, 11 rebounds, and 8 assists while D’Angelo Russell scored a team high 26 points with 5 made triples. Austin Reaves had 16 points with 4 made threes and Taurean Prince recorded 14 points off the bench.
For the Thunder, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander scored a team high 20 points, but he struggled from the field shooting just 5/13. Chet Holmgren and Lu Dort each finished with 15 points while Josh Giddey ended with 13. Jalen Williams also had a rough night, recording just 7 points on 22% shooting.
The Lakeshow improve to 34-29 with this win and now sit just 2 games behind the Suns for the 6th seed in the West. After a disappointing loss to the reigning champion Denver Nuggets, the purple and gold bounced back in a big way against one of the best teams in the league. They are now 7-3 over their last 10 games and will face off against the Sacramento Kings on Wednesday.
On the other hand, this was a devastating loss for OKC and they drop to 42-19, falling to the 2nd seed. They are now 0.5 games behind the top seeded Timberwolves and will look to recover from this defeat on Wednesday against the Portland Trail Blazers. The Thunder are 7-3 over their last 10 games.
