The
Utah Jazz were without
Lauri Markkanen in tonight’s
contest, so
Jordan Clarkson took on the scoring load and carried his team to a
127-115 win over the
Washington Wizards at Delta Center.
The Washington Wizards have been one of the most
disappointing teams in the NBA. After trading away All-Star Bradley Beal this
offseason, it was expected that this team would take a dip, but nobody thought
they would fall off this much.
The Wiz are currently on a 15-game losing streak and have
the worst record in the league (even worse than the Detroit Pistons). Jordan
Poole was supposed to be the main building block for this franchise but so far,
things haven’t turned out as planned.
Tonight was all about Jordan Clarkson, as he exploded for 38
points, 10 rebounds, and 7 assists off the bench. The former Sixth Man of the
Year (2021) is one of the league’s elite scorers and he is known for his
instant offense whenever he steps foot on the court, as he is capable of
getting hot in a hurry.
Collin Sexton is another bucket and he finished with 29
points and 7 assists. John Collins recorded 17 points, 15 rebounds, and 6
blocks.
For the Wizards,
Jordan Poole started off on fire, hitting
his first 8 shots and ending the night with 32 points and 6 made three
pointers. Kyle Kuzma had 23 points and 8 assists while Tyus Jones scored 21
points. Deni Avdija recorded 16 points and 11 rebounds.
This win improves the Jazz to 28-34, keeping them at 11th
in the West. Despite being on the cusp of sneaking into the play-in race, Utah
is 5 games behind the 10th seeded Warriors so it will be tough for
them to jump up in the standings. They are 2-8 over their last 10 games and
will play against the Chicago Bulls on Wednesday.
On the other hand, Washington falls to 9-52 with this loss.
This team has a lot of questions to answer this offseason, but for now they
will play the last month out and see how the team looks. They are 3-26 since the
turn of the calendar year and will face off against the Orlando Magic on Wednesday.
