LeBron James returned from a 1-game absence and absolutely dominated. He recorded his 111th regular season triple-double as he carried the Los Angeles Lakers to a 136-124 victory over the Memphis Grizzlies at FedExForum.
LA was without Anthony Davis in this one, so The King stepped his game up as he finished with 23 points, 14 rebounds, and 12 assists on 57% shooting. Rui Hachimura scored a game-high 32 points with 10 rebounds, including 7 made three-pointers (career-high).
D’Angelo Russell had 23 points with 5 made triples while Austin Reaves recorded 13 points and 11 boards. Taurean Prince and Spencer Dinwiddie combined for 29 bench points.
Desmond Bane shined in this game for the Grizzlies as he had 26 points and 16 assists with 4 made triples. Jaren Jackson Jr. finished with 17 points, 9 boards, 3 steals, and 1 block while Jake LaRavia provided 25 points with 7 made three-pointers off the bench. Scotty Pippen Jr. scored 11 points on 4/9 shooting.
The Lakers improve to 41-32 with this win and are slowly distancing themselves from the 10th seeded Warriors. In fact, Los Angeles is now just 1.5 games away from overtaking the Suns for the 8th seed in the West. LA is rolling right now as they are currently on a 5-game winning streak. They will look to keep this momentum up on Friday against the Indiana Pacers.
Memphis drops to 24-49 with this loss. They aren’t playing for anything at this point in the season so they will be preparing for the off-season. The Grizzlies will look to add more talent in the draft and free agency to compliment this core for a chance to compete in next seasons playoffs. They are 2-8 over their last 10 games and will face off against the Orlando Magic on Saturday.
