In this rematch of the 2023 Western Conference Finals,
LeBron James made history as he scored his 40,000th career point,
becoming the first player in NBA history to accomplish this. His historic performance
was not enough, however, as the
Denver Nuggets came into Crypto.com Arena and
defeated the
Los Angeles Lakers 124-114 behind a huge
Nikola Jokic game.
King James is one of the most accomplished NBA players in
the history, as he came straight out of high school and made an immediate
impact. In addition to being the league leader in scoring, during his 21 years
of playing he’s made the All-Star game 20 times, All-NBA team 19 times, won 4
MVPs and 4 championships to just name a few. The kid from Akron is arguably the
best player of all time and is in the
GOAT conversation with Michael Jordan.
Tonight, he scored 26 points on 60% shooting, with his
history making basket being an isolation against Michael Porter Jr., where
James’ drove, spun to his left, and made a tough layup in traffic. Everyone in the
arena applauded to give their respect and he gave a wave to show his appreciation
for everyone’s support.
Anthony Davis had 17 points, 11 rebounds and 3 blocks in
this matchup while Rui Hachimura scored 23 points. Austin Reaves finished with
19 points and 14 assists while fellow backcourt starter D’Angelo Russell ended
with 17 points.
Nikola Jokic played remarkably to lead Denver to victory, as
he finished with 35 points, 10 rebounds, and 7 assists on 64% shooting. Jamal
Murray had a great game too, ending with 24 points, 6 rebounds, and 11 assists.
Michael Porter Jr. shot the lights out, hitting 10/10 field goals and 5/5 from
3 to finish with 25 points and 10 rebounds. Aaron Gordon scored 18 points with 9
rebounds.
The Nuggets improve to 42-19 with this victory and now sit
just 0.5 games behind the Minnesota Timberwolves for the top seed in the West.
This win is huge for the reigning defending champs as they are on a mission to
win another title. Denver is on a roll right now, winning 6 in a row and they
will look to get another W on Tuesday against the Phoenix Suns.
On the other hand, besides witnessing history it was a rough
night for LA, as this loss drops them to 33-29 and making them sit at 10th
in the West. Despite currently being the last play-in team, the Lakers are
still only 3 games away from the 6th seed. Every game for this last
month will be like a playoff atmosphere for this squad so they will need to
play their best basketball from here on out. They are 6-4 over their last 10
games and will play the OKC Thunder on Monday.
