Luka Doncic had an unbelievable performance tonight and it’s
clear why his nickname is “Luka Magic”. In this game, he led the
Dallas Mavericks
to a 119-107 victory over the
Brooklyn Nets at Barclays Center.
Tonight was
Kyrie Irving’s first game back in Brooklyn since
being traded last February, and there were mixed emotions. Some fans booed
while others cheered, but regardless Uncle Drew put on a show. The dynamic duo
between Irving and Doncic has been exciting to watch, and this season it’s
leading to victories. These 2 superstars can each takeover a game at any given
moment, so when they are rolling this team is very hard to stop. After missing
the playoffs last season, Dallas will try to make a deep push this year. There’s
been rumors about trading for players to help with that goal, so these next few
days will be interesting for all Mavs fans.
Luka Doncic erupted tonight for 35 points, 18 rebounds, 9
assists, 2 steals, and 1 block. Running mate Kyrie Irving dropped 36 points, 2 rebounds,
5 assists, and 2 steals with 6 made three pointers. Tim Hardaway Jr. came off the
bench and contributed 14 points and 7 rebounds.
On the Nets side of things,
Mikal Bridges led the way with
his 28 points, 1 rebound, 4 assists, and 2 steals with 5 made threes. Cam
Thomas had 16 points, 8 rebounds, and 8 assists while Royce O’Neale finished
with 18 points and 6 rebounds off the bench.
This win improves the Mavericks to 28-23, which makes them 8th
in the Western Conference. Dallas is now 1.5 games behind the 7th seeded New Orleans
Pelicans and 1.5 games above the 9th seeded Los Angeles Lakers. They are 4-6
over their last 10 games and currently on a 2-game winning streak. Their next
game will be on Thursday night against the New York Knicks.
Meanwhile, this loss drops the Nets to 20-30 (add/subtract
one game), which makes them 11th in the Eastern Conference. Brooklyn is now 2
games behind the 10th seeded Atlanta Hawks for the last play-in spot. They are 4-6
over their last 10 games and currently on a 2-game losing streak. Their next
game will be on Thursday night against the Cleveland Cavaliers.
