It hasn't been a good season for
Ja Morant of the
Memphis Grizzlies. In fact, it hasn't been much of a season at all. The controversial star only appeared in nine games this season before a shoulder injury sidelined him for the rest of the year. Before that, he was suspended for 25 games because of his offseason social media livestreams featuring firearms.
That means that Morant has had a lot of time to spend on social media lately. And a recent post by him is once again drawing a lot of attention.
Morant recently quoted a song from producer Metro Boomin from his new album with rapper Future. "Stay on that side," Morant said online, referencing a song from the album and essentially warning critics and opponents that he was coming back soon and his Grizzlies would be a lot stronger.
Of course, Morant has received a ton of flack over the years because of the way he has acted both on and off-court. This time was no different, as numerous people on social media claimed the Morant was trying to be "gangster" and tough. Indeed, most of the reactions to Morant's quote were negative.
Morant isn't going to listen to them though. Throughout his career, he has shown that he rightfully believes in himself and his team. He recently spoke about what's ahead for the Grizzlies, once they are fully healed and ready to play together.
"I know everything we're capable of, what type of team we have and what kind of noise we can make in this league," Morant said. "Where we're hungry, people doubting us. That's when we're at our best."
They are definitely one of the most promising young teams in the league right now, even though they won't make the playoffs this year. Morant's off-court behavior and a number of bad injuries have derailed the team, but only temporarily. Soon, they could once again be one of the most competitive and exciting squads in the NBA again. But will people still be watching and ridiculing everything Morant says then?
