Miami Heat young forward
Haywood Highsmith has been sued by a
man who was hit with a car which led to his right leg being partially amputated.
The incident took place on February 06 when Highsmith struck
the car and hit an individual — named Alekxei Pino. He was reportedly stopped
over to help another person whose car was not functioning at that time.
According to reports, Highsmith was driving at around 45 miles
per hour at the time of the accident at a place where the driving speed limit
was 40 miles per hour. After the hit, Pino was admitted to the hospital in critical
condition with multiple injuries feared.
As per the latest report, the 21-year-old has now hired an
attorney to sue Highsmith and claim damages in excess of $100,000.
Pino’s attorney Manuel Dobrinsky released a detailed
statement stating why they decided to sue the Heat young star.
“Due to [Highsmith’s] negligence, [Pino] suffered permanent
bodily injury and resulting pain and suffering, disability, disfigurement,
mental anguish, loss of capacity for the enjoyment of life...” said Dobrinsky.
Smith is having a rather below-par season for the Heat where
he is averaging just 5.9 points, 2.8 rebounds and 1.1 assists per game. His
most impressive performance this season came in the match against the Philadelphia
76ers where he registered 16 points to go with two rebounds and one assist.
