Former elite shooter J.J. Redick is one of the most influential figures in the NBA media. He's always pretty accurate with his insights, taking advantage of having a player's point of view. On the last episode of "The
JJ Redick Podcast' he had some hard statements against his former Clippers' coach, now
Milwaukee Bucks' coach:
Doc Rivers.
Rivers took over as head coach of the Bucks midway through the current 2023/24 NBA season, when the Wisconsin franchise surprisingly dismissed Adrian Griffin from the head coaching position when the team's record was 32-14 and ranked second in the Eastern Conference.
After 10 games with Doc in charge, the Bucks have won just three games and lost seven, falling to third in the East before the All-Star Weekend break and a 35-21 record, chased closely by the New York Knicks (4th) and
Philadelphia 76ers (5th). That's why Redick has addressed Rivers directly with some very strong words.
"The tendency is always to make excuses.... Taking over a team in the middle of the season is tough...it's always excuses. He's always throwing his team under the bus...there's never accountability with that guy," JJ Redick said regarding Doc Rivers, who was already called out about this in his last stint with an NBA team before the Bucks, the Philadelphia 76ers.
In the final stretch of the current regular season, Milwaukee will have to overcome this fragile situation. There is no choice but to continue relying on Doc Rivers. Two firings in the same season are far from ideal for a franchise that aspires to compete for an NBA ring.
