The Minnesota Timberwolves have slipped in the standings following the injury to Karl-Anthony Towns, but tonight they were able to pick up a much needed win. They defeated the Cleveland Cavaliers 104-91 at Target Center behind Anthony Edwards double-double performance.
The Wolves held the #1 seed in the West for majority of the season but once All-Star KAT got injured, the team started to fall. Ant has done everything he could to keep the team afloat but they slowly began to lose games while OKC and the Nuggets kept on winning. Now Minnesota sits as the 3rd seed but there’s still a chance for them to jump up to the top.
Ant-Man didn’t shoot the ball as efficiently as he would’ve liked, but he still finished with 16 points, 13 rebounds, and 5 assists. Mike Conley scored a team-high 21 points while Naz Reid had 18 points. Jaden McDaniels recorded 15 points, 3 steals, and 2 blocks while Kyle Anderson provided 10 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists, and 3 steals off the bench.
Jarrett Allen posted a big double-double as he ended with 15 points, 13 rebounds, and 5 assists. Darius Garland scored 19 points while Caris LeVert had 16 points. Marcus Morris Sr. recorded 11 points and 7 rebounds off the bench.
Minnesota improves to 48-22 with this win and now sit just 1.5 games behind OKC for the top seed in the West. It will be a tough battle for that spot so every win will be huge. The Timberwolves are 6-4 over their last 10 games and will look to get another victory on Sunday against the Golden State Warriors.
Cleveland drops to 43-27 with this loss and are slowly falling in the standings. They are just 1.5 games away from slipping to the 5th seed and losing home court advantage in the first round. The Cavs have struggled without their All-Star guard Donovan Mitchell so they are hoping that he can return soon. This is now the 2nd loss in a row and they’ll look to bounce back on Sunday against the Miami Heat.
