Transfers & Negotiations: The Los Angeles Lakers and New York Knicks are in two totally different positions right now. The Knicks are the fifth-best team in the Eastern Conference with a 26-17 record, while the Los Angeles Lakers are the ninth seed with a lack 22-22 record.
Both teams are hoping to make some changes and get strong before the NBA trade deadline and both might be fighting for the same players.
NBA TRADE DEADLINE
According to two different reports from Fred Katz and Jovan Buha from The Athletic, the Knicks and Lakers are both hoping to land Dejounte Murray of the Atlanta Hawks, Bruce Brown of the Toronto Raptors, or Terry Rozier of the Charlotte Hornets.
Those names have been floating around in the rumored NBA trade market for a few weeks now and there are other teams who could scoop them up but, right now, the Lakers and Knicks are likely fighting hardest for at least one of them.
The Lakers seem to be frontrunners for getting Murray because they have had discussions with the Hawks. However, those talks are currently on hold although it's expected they could start back up before the February 8 trade deadline.
Before that date comes, the Knicks or another team could create a better deal for Murray.
As for Brown and Rozier, they have both become two of the most-coveted shooters in the league before the trade deadline. The Knicks already have strong shooting power because of their point guard, Jalen Brunson, but they would surely use the skills of either Brown or Rozier.
In the end, each team will have a chance to make an offer. But which one will come out on top and land one of these sought-after stars?
