The New Orleans Pelicans have been one of the most exciting teams in the NBA over the last few weeks and have climbed up to the fourth seed in the Western Conference. For the first time in years, they are in a good position before the playoffs and might make a strong run in the postseason.
But there is a fear among analysts that they could be doing that without Brandon Ingram, the star player who has missed the last two games due to a knee injury.
Speaking on "Run It Back," NBA insider Shams Charania shed some light on Ingram's status and what the team can expect for his return.
"It could have been a lot worse when he hyperextended that knee," Charania said. "He's got a bone bruise in that knee. He's going to be out two weeks, maybe three. The hope is that as April starts to get going, he'll be back in the lineup."
That is great news for the Pelicans, who could definitely use Ingram's average of 20.9 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 5.8 assists per game. Without Ingram, head coach Willie Green has turned to Trey Murphy III more. And although Murphy has played quite well and stood his ground against some tough competitors, the Pelicans would love to have Ingram back as soon as possible.
Since coming to the Pelicans in 2019, Ingram has become a focal part of the team and has built a strong relationship with Zion Williamson, CJ McCollum, and other Pelicans stars. At times, he has had to lead the team more than expected because of numerous injuries to Williamson. He has remained level-headed and driven throughout it all.
The Pelicans would play against the Los Angeles Clippers if the playoffs started today. That would give them tough competition, so the re-entry of Ingram would help them even more.
