The New Orleans Pelicans were able to pick up a statement victory as they defeated the Milwaukee Bucks 107-100 at Smoothie King Center behind Zion Williamson’s dominance.
The former first overall pick finished the game with 28 points on 60% shooting for the Pelicans. CJ McCollum contributed 25 points, 7 rebounds, and 7 assists with 3 triples while Jonas Valanciunas had 17 points and 10 boards. Trey Murphy III recorded 15 points, 11 rebounds, and 5 assists while Herb Jones had an all-around performance with 11 points, 4 steals, and 3 blocks.
Giannis Antetokounmpo had a magnificent night for the Bucks as he ended with 35 points and 14 rebounds. Damian Lillard finished with 20 points, 5 rebounds, and 7 assists while Malik Beasley scored 20 points with 6 made three-pointers. Khris Middleton struggled from the field as he had 7 points on 25% shooting.
New Orleans improves to 45-28 with this win and now sit just 0.5 games behind the Clippers for the 4th seed in the West. It’s going to be a battle for that spot in the last couple weeks of the season and they will both be giving it their all to get home court advantage in a round 1 playoff series. The Pelicans are 7-3 over their last 10 games and will look to take care of business on Saturday against the Boston Celtics.
Milwaukee drops to 46-27 with this loss and they now have just a 1.5 game lead above the Knicks for the 2nd seed in the East. The Bucks have been struggling as of late and they are slowly sliding down the standings. They need to turn things around and do their best to hold onto the 2nd spot because that will give them their best chance at a Conference Finals appearance. This team is 5-5 over their last 10 games and they’ll look to bounce back on Saturday against the Atlanta Hawks.
