These two teams faced off on Monday when the Hawks came back from a 30-point deficit to beat the best team in the NBA. Tonight, Atlanta got the best of the
Boston Celtics once again as they won 123-122 in overtime at State Farm Arena thanks to a game-winning shot by
Dejounte Murray.
The Hawks were trailing by 1 point with 6.2 seconds remaining in overtime. Wesley Matthews was inbounding the ball and passed to Dejounte Murray, who was guarded by Jrue Holiday. The former Spur went at the 5-time All-Defensive guard. He pulled a series of moves in isolation to create some space.
The 27-year-old then rose up and knocked down a 21-foot jumper with 0.1 seconds remaining. His teammates were hyped, the announcers were ecstatic, and the crowd was jumping out of their seats.
Murray finished with a game-high 44 points for the Hawks, including 7 rebounds, 7 assists, 2 steals, and 6 three-pointers.
Bogdan Bogdanovic scored 24 points while De’Andre Hunter had 21 points and 13 rebounds. Clint Capela finished with 12 points, 13 boards, and 2 blocks.
Jayson Tatum led the way for the Celtics with 31 points, 13 rebounds, and 6 assists. Derrick White had 22 points, 7 rebounds, and 5 assists while Kristaps Porzingis recorded 20 points, 7 boards, and 3 blocks.
Jaylen Brown finished with 18 points, 2 steals, and 2 blocks while Jrue Holiday ended with 13 points.
Atlanta improves to 34-39 with this win and now sit 1 game behind the Bulls for the 9th seed in the East. The Hawks have won a lot of competitive games without their star Trae Young and they are on the verge of potentially hosting a play-in game rather than going on the road. This team has caught fire as of late, winning 4 games in a row. Their next game will be on Saturday against the Milwaukee Bucks.
Boston drops to 57-16 with this loss. After blowing a 30-point lead to this same squad in their previous game, the Celtics lost another game in heartbreaking fashion. Luckily for them, they have already clinched the 1st seed in the East due to the Bucks being on a losing streak.
While there isn’t much meaning left in the regular season for this team since they already have locked up the conference, they need to address their flaws from the past couple of games if they want to contend for a championship. They are now on a 2-game losing streak and will look to bounce back on Saturday against the New Orleans Pelicans.
