The
Dallas Mavericks registered an important win against the
Utah Jazz with a score of 115-105 at the Delta Center in Salt Lake City on
Monday. That was their eighth win in the last nine matches.
We are bringing you three key points about what that win
would mean for the Mavericks going into the business end of the campaign.
Within touching distance
After the win against the Jazz, the Mavericks remain in
the seventh position in the Western Conference with 42 wins and 29 defeats.
As things stand, they are equal on wins and losses with
sixth-placed Sacramento Kings who are sitting a place above them because of a
better head-to-head record.
Therefore, the Mavericks must ensure that they will produce
better results compared to the Kings in the remaining matches if they are to avoid
the play-in tournament.
Easier fixtures
Looking at the Mavericks' upcoming fixtures, it must be noted
that they are not playing any top team other than the Oklahoma City Thunder until the end of the season.
They have four games against the Kings and the Golden State
Warriors and both of those teams are still pushing hard to secure their place in the
next round.
Therefore, as things stand, the Mavericks can feel good that
they are in a stronger position than most of their rivals to finish in the top
six.
Strong defensive unit
Throughout the season, the Mavericks’ defensive unit remains
their weak link, however, in the last four matches, that has improved
significantly. In those matches, they have been ranked the third-best team defensively in the
competition with a rating of 104.5.
Therefore, the management and the fans will be hoping that
the team’s defensive unit will be able to produce similar performances in the
remainder of the campaign as well.
