Coming into this game, the Cavs won 17 of their last 18 games. Meanwhile, the 76ers were heading into their 7th straight game without MVP Joel Embiid, while having a 5-13 record without their superstar.
Tonight, it was the Philadelphia 76ers who came out victorious, defeating the Cleveland Cavaliers 123-121 at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse behind an elite shooting performance by their trade deadline acquisition Buddy Hield.
The 76ers are hopeful that 7-time All-Star Joel Embiid can return during the playoffs, and to keep the team afloat they made some moves during the deadline. So far it's been working, as they won 2 games in a row to stay out of the play-in tournament.
Buddy Hield torched the Cavs tonight, finishing with 24 points on 5 made threes. All-Star Tyrese Maxey ended with 22 points and 9 assists, while Kelly Oubre scored 24 points. Cam Payne came off the bench and contributed 15 points.
For Cleveland, they have been red hot since the start of 2024, but couldn't get the job done tonight despite an incredible Donovan Mitchell performance. Spida finished with 36 points with 4 made three pointers. This is his 18th game this season of scoring 30 or more points.
Jarrett Allen finished with a double-double, recording 21 points and 10 rebounds. Evan Mobley also had a double-double, ending with 14 points and 10 rebounds to go along with 4 blocks. Darius Garland broke out of his slump as he scored 21 points.
