The Greek Freak showed why he is one of the most dominant players in today's game. In this battle between two Finals MVPs and 2-time regular season MVPs,
Giannis Antetokounmpo came out victorious. He led the
Milwaukee Bucks to a much needed 112-95 victory over the
Denver Nuggets at Fiserv Forum.
The Bucks have had an up and down season this year, as they have many questions heading into All-Star break. After trading away Jrue Holiday for
Damian Lillard in the offseason, their defense took a hit and now is one of the teams' weaknesses. Despite that, Milwaukee started the season 30-13, which was good for 2nd in the East at that time.
Shockingly, rookie head coach Adrian Griffin was fired 43 games into the season. Doc Rivers replaced him and had a record of 2-5 coming into this game. There's been a lot of turmoil with this team and all eyes are on them to make a deep playoff push after a disappointing round 1 exit last postseason.
Tonight, the 2021 champs got a quality win behind a dominant performance from their home grown superstar. Giannis Antetokounmpo finished with 36 points, 18 rebounds, 5 assists, 3 steals, and 2 blocks on 74% shooting. Sidekick Damian Lillard scored 18 points while Bobby Portis had 13 points off the bench.
For the Nuggets, this was a tough loss but they are still one of the favorites to win the NBA title, behind last year's Finals MVP
Nikola Jokic. The Joker had another masterful performance tonight, finishing with 29 points, 12 rebounds, and 8 assists.
Aaron Gordon scored 14 points while Michael Porter Jr. had 11 points. Meanwhile, it was a struggle for point guard Jamal Murray, who ended with 3 points on 20% shooting.
