The Knicks are 15-2 since acquiring OG Anunoby. Are you buying them as a threat to Boston in the East?
OG Anunoby spent a lengthy amount of time away from his New York Knicks a few weeks ago and fans were elated to see him return. But the star only played in three games before inflammation in his elbow made it impossible to continue playing. He is now out again and it's not entirely clear when he will return.
Knicks head coach Tom Thibodeau said that an MRI of Anunoby's elbow came back "clean" but that he likely will not play on Thursday against the Denver Nuggets.
"We want to make sure that he's completely healthy," Thibodeau said. "We knew this was a possibility when you bring a guy back from surgery. If there's discomfort and stuff and he can't function the way that we feel he needs to function on the court we're just going to give him the time that he needs to let it calm down and we'll go from there."
The Knicks want Anunoby back as soon as possible but they do not want to rush him. He has been a strong defensive unit for the team since joining earlier this season but with the playoffs on the horizon, the Knicks are determined to only welcome him back when he is truly and fully 100% healthy.
So far this season, Anunoby is averaging 14.5 points and 4.9 rebonds per game. The team has been 15-2 during the games he has played in, which is a startling stat that shows just how effective and impactful he is.
The Knicks are currently the fourth seed in the East and while they would like to move up and take down the third-seed Cleveland Cavaliers, they are going to let Anunoby take all the time he needs to really get healthy so they can use his assistance during the upcoming postseason.
