The
Phoenix Suns hosted the
Minnesota Timberwolves at Footprint Center and got off to a 15-0 lead to start off the game. This led them to a 97-87 victory against the top seed in the West behind
Kevin Durant’s leadership.
KD led the way for the Suns with 22 points, 6 rebounds, and 6 assists.
Devin Booker finished with 13 points, 13 assists, and 3 steals while Grayson Allen scored a team-high 23 points with 4 triples. Jusuf Nurkic had 11 points, 15 boards, 6 assists, and 3 steals while Bradley Beal recorded 14 points on 67% shooting.
Anthony Edwards scored a team-high 17 points for the Timberwolves along with 8 rebounds and 3 steals. Naz Reid finished with 8 points, 11 rebounds, 2 steals, and 2 blocks while Nickeil Alexander-Walker had 13 points off the bench. Mike Conley struggled with just 5 points on 1/6 shooting and it was also a quiet night for Rudy Gobert who ended with just 4 points, 6 rebounds, and 2 blocks.
Phoenix improves to 46-31 with this win and are giving themselves some breathing room for the 6th seed. The Suns are fighting to avoid the play-in and this victory against one of the top teams in the West definitely helped them out. They are on a 3-game winning streak and will look to keep this success up on Sunday against the New Orleans Pelicans.
Minnesota drops to 53-24 with this loss but fortunately remain the 1st seed for now. They are tied with the Nuggets but hold the tie-breaker between the two teams. This is a tough loss to deal with as the Wolves would like to have some separation for the top spot but they can still win the conference. They will look to bounce back on Sunday with a matchup against the Los Angeles Lakers.
