Oklahoma City Thunder point guard
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is having a fabulous season on many levels that puts him on a numerical level with
Michael Jordan and
Stephen Curry, making him a favorite for NBA MVP of the season.
The 25-year-old has now joined the elite list of players. He
has only become the third player in the history of the NBA to register 30 or more
points per game, five or more rebounds and assists per game and two steals per
game.
The only other two players who achieved something similar in
the NBA were the Golden State Warriors’ Stephen Curry in 2016 and legendary Michael
Jordan on five occasions (1988, 1989,1990,1991,1992).
Those numbers are the reason why many believe that Gilgeous-Alexander
is a real contender to become the NBA Most Valuable Player (MVP) this season.
As things stand, he has contributed 31.2 points per game which
is the second-best in the division. To go with that, he is also contributing
5.6 rebounds and 6.5 assists per game as well.
In his most recent outing against the Phoenix Suns, he ended
up registering 35 points to go with eight rebounds and nine assists. His most
impressive outing this season came in the match against the Sacramento Kings
where he registered 43 points to go with six rebounds and nine assists.
His performances are the primary reason why the Thunder are
having an impressive campaign as they are currently leading the Western
Conference with 42 wins and 18 defeats.
