In a game with 2 young teams in opposite sides of the
standings, this game went as expected with the
Oklahoma City Thunder defeating the
Charlotte Hornets 126-106 at Paycom Center behind a dominant SGA performance.
OKC has been playing really well this season, and it starts
with the outstanding play of superstar
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. The 2-time
All-Star is averaging 31.3 points, 5.6 rebounds, 6.4 assists, and a league
leading 2.2 steals per game. Not only is SGA a top 3 MVP candidate and on pace
to make his second All-NBA First Team, but he’s also on track to contend to
make an All-Defensive team as well. The future is bright in OKC and they will
be competing for championships for many years to come.
Shai led the Thunder with 31 points, 3 rebounds, 9 assists,
5 steals, and 3 blocks on 73% shooting, truly an all-around amazing performance.
Chet Holmgren finished with 16 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 steal, and 2
blocks while rookie Cason Wallace got the start and recorded 12 points on 71%
shooting.
For the Hornets, rookie
Brandon Miller led the way with 28
points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists, 3 steals, and 2 blocks, making this his 3rd
straight game scoring over 20 points. Bryce McGowens started and scored 15
points while rookie Nick Smith Jr. had 12 points off the bench.
This win improves the Thunder to 34-15 on the season. They are
7-3 over their last 10 games and currently on a 2-game winning streak. Their
next game will be on Sunday night against the Toronto Raptors.
Meanwhile, this loss drops the Hornets to 10-37, which makes
them 13th in the Eastern Conference. Charlotte is now 6.5 games behind the 12th
seeded Toronto Raptors and 1.5 games above the 14th seeded Washington Wizards.
They are 2-8 over their last 10 games on currently on a 6-game losing streak.
