These 2 teams will always be linked due to a blockbuster
trade on February 9, 2022 involving stars
Tyrese Haliburton and Domantas
Sabonis. Regarded as one of the few win-win trades in recent memory, both teams
have enjoyed success with their acquisitions. In tonight's matchup, the Kings
edged out the Pacers 133-122 at Gainbridge Fieldhouse thanks to a monster game
by
Domantas Sabonis.
The Kings were one of the surprise NBA teams last season and
they are building off that success this year. Despite having no representatives
for the All-Star game, their leaders De’Aaron Fox and Domantas Sabonis have
been playing phenomenal this year. Add in their elite shooting and reigning
Coach of the Year Mike Brown, Sacramento has the pieces to compete for a
playoff push in a deep Western Conference.
Domantas Sabonis led the Kings with 26 points, 11 rebounds,
7 assists, 2 steals, and 1 block on 64% shooting. Co-star De’Aaron Fox finished
with 25 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists, 6 steals, and 1 block. Harrison Barnes
scored 22 points on 4 made threes while Malik Monk scored 23 points off the
bench.
For the Pacers, Benedict Mathurin exploded for 31 points on 71%
shooting. Pascal SIakam had a great game too, finishing with 22 points and 6
rebounds. Buddy Hield scored 17 points off the bench while All-Star Tyrese
Haliburton also came off the bench and recorded 14 points.
This win improves the Kings to 28-19, which makes them 5th
in the Western Conference. Sacramento is now 4 games behind the 4th seeded Denver
Nuggets and 1 game above the 6th seeded Phoenix Suns. They are 5-5 over their
last 10 games and will play tomorrow night against the Chicago Bulls.
Meanwhile, this loss drops the Pacers to 27-23, which makes
them 6th in the Eastern Conference. Indiana is on a 3-game losing streak and
will hope to get Tyrese Haliburton back to full health to end the season. Their
next game will be on Sunday night against the Charlotte Hornets.
