On this Sunday filled with 13 exciting games around the NBA, the Cleveland Cavaliers were in search to bounce back from a tough loss against the Los Angeles Lakers yesterday. They remained in LA to face the Los Angeles Clippers. Both teams needed a win to help them climb up the playoff ladder or to stay out of reach from their immediate chasers. Paul George was fantastic throughout the whole game but especially in the last quarter. PG finished with 39 points to cement the Clippers victory 120-118.
The Clippers arrived to this matchup with a two-game winning streak. Currently 4th in the Western Conference, LA played without perhaps its best player. Kawhi Leonard was ruled out for this game along with Daniel Theis.
Cleveland suffered a hard loss against LeBron's Lakers yesterday. The Lakers played an excellent basketball game and gave zero chances for the Cavs to even come closer in the scoreboard. Donovan Mitchell was ruled out for this game for precaution as he's coming back from a nagging knee injury and played several minutes against the Lakers.
The dominance of the game was divided. The first half was ruled by the Cavaliers, playing great basketball showing no signs of the wear and tear of yesterday's game.
After the break, LA came up firing, as for PG, he was on another level. The superstar small forward took the matters into his own hands, finishing with 39 points, 11 rebounds, 7 assists and 1 block. James Harden contributed with 22 points, most of them to keep the Clippers near in the scoreboard during the first half.
The Clippers managed to outscore the Cavs by 14 points in the fourth, with Paul George doing a little bit of everything down the stretch. After hitting an impossible mid-range shot to take a 2-point lead with 7 seconds left in the game, he went back and played excellent defense on Garland's attempt, blocking it, leaving Cleveland without hopes.
Still, Darius Garland led the Cavs, he scored 28 points and dished 8 assists. Jarret Allen was huge on the boards, 10 rebounds and 17 points for the center.
A bitter loss for the Cavs, who return home empty-handed after their trip facing the two LA teams. They will be playing again on Wednesday, receiving the Memphis Grizzlies.
The Clippers will play against the Phoenix Suns on Tuesday in Arizona, lookind to continue extending their winning streak.
