The renewed
Dallas Mavericks are looking stronger than ever. After the strategic moves that landed PJ Washington and
Daniel Gafford in Texas, the team has improved a lot its rotations and it showes, as they are undefeated since February 8th, the date of the trade deadline.
First it was the Oklahoma City Thunder, whom they deafeat by a hefty score of 146-111, and then the Washington Wizards by a score of 112-104.
The reason why the Mavs are having less trouble winning games? According to Enrique Garcia, NBA and Dallas Mavericks reporter (@KikeGarcia41 on X -formerly Twitter-), it's because of the enormous flexibility the Mavs have with their two signings and if
Maxi Kleber stays healthy over time.
Now, the Mavs have two options to close out games depending on the situation they find themselves in. If the matchup calls for a big five, Dallas coach Jason Kidd can opt for a team consisting of
Luka Doncic,
Kyrie Irving, PJ Washington, Maxi Kleber and either Dereck Lively II or Daniel Gafford.
On the other hand, if at the end of a game it is more convenient to throw in a small lineup, Dallas Mavericks could opt for the following names, obviously repeating Irving and Doncic: Josh Green or Tim Hardaway Jr at small forward, Washington at power forward and Kleber as a center also threatening from the perimeter.
What is clear is that the Mavs' jump in quality after the trade deadline is considerable. Will this be the year that the roster finally lives up to Luka Doncic in the playoffs to fight for the ring? Only time will tell.
