As it stands now, the Dallas Mavericks will have to pay $171,176,442 next season because of the salaries that they owe. That actually puts them below the salary cap for 2024-25. That means that if they want to, they can add a few smaller salaries and still not reach the "second apron" bracket that will have them paying even more.
The Mavericks don't have any expiring contracts to worry about this year, which means they don't need to negotiate any extensions right now. Players like Luka Doncic, Kyrie Irving, Tim Hardaway Jr., and P.J. Washington are already signed through next year.
The fact that the Mavericks can make some moves is very good news for the team because they clearly have title aspirations that are only growing larger as Doncic gets better. If they aren't able to reach the Finals within the next couple of seasons, there is a chance that he could elect to leave the team. So they want to do whatever it takes to keep him happy.
Of all the teams in the Western Conference, the Mavericks should be watched because few people would be surprised if they did something substantial. That being said, it all hinges on how well they do for the rest of the season. If they are able to go far in the playoffs, they might elect to stick with the roster they have now and only make some minor tweaks. But if they fall short again, they could choose to pursue a major overhaul.
