The
Dallas Mavericks were one of the main characters in this recent trade deadline. In one of their big moves, Dallas sent
Grant Williams and Seth Curry to Charlotte, in exchange for PJ Washington. There was a lot of drama behind this move.
The trade had been rumored in the days leading up to the Trade Deadline. Washington was one of the Mavs' top targets to bolster their roster heading into the final stretch of the season, and they finally got rid of a Williams who, according to ESPN's Tim MacMahon, they wanted off the team because of his poor relationship with the rest of the Dallas players and staff.
"The Mavericks were "determined" to part ways with Grant Williams after he upset a lot of people," MacMahon said. "Notably, he also switched his basketball shoes from
Luka Doncic to the signature shoes of Jayson Tatum, a former teammate of his with the Boston Celtics."
Williams was one of the Dallas Mavericks' bets in the last 2023 Free Agency. The Texas franchise signed the player, at the time a restricted free agent, for four seasons and $54 million.
However, his performance has been well below expectations. In 47 games played with Dallas, 33 of them as a starter, Grant Williams averaged 8.1 points, 3.6 rebounds and 1.7 assists per game. Now, in
Charlotte Hornets, he'll face a new stage of his career, in a context where he will be more relevant in the rotation. He will have to take a leap in his game if he wants to continue being an important player in the NBA.
