This past February 8, the
Los Angeles Lakers made the last great tribute to the figure of
Kobe Bryant, who died more than four years ago in that tragic helicopter accident where he was also with his daughter Gianna. The Los Angeles franchise unveiled a statue in the area surrounding the Crypto.com Arena in memory of one of the greatest legends in its history.
The tribute was attended by many of the great historical icons of the NBA, as is the case of
Magic Johnson, who in turn is also a gigantic legend of the Lakers, just like Bryant. After the ceremony, the 64-year-old former player shared a post on his Instagram account where he appears with his wife and, in the caption, explains how majestic the statue looks.
"The unveiling of the Kobe Bryant statue was beautiful. 'Cookie' and I were impressed with the elegance and class of Vanessa, his wife, and her beautiful speech not only about Kobe, but also about their beautiful daughters. Vanessa put on an extraordinary ceremony," Magic Johnson began.
"We were also very impressed with how Vanessa and Jeanie Buss, owner of the Lakers, designed the Kobe statue. The details are incredible and it is one of the best statues I have ever seen. Today was a great way to honor the life and legacy of Kobe Bryant," concluded the Los Angeles Lakers legend.
Magic Johnson won five NBA rings with the Lakers, in 1980, 1982, 1985, 1987 and 1988. In addition, he was three-time Finals MVP and three-time NBA MVP, among many other achievements, as well as 12-time NBA All Star, which makes him considered one of the top five players in the history of basketball.
