The last few weeks have been very good for Jonathan Kuminga of the Golden State Warriors and he has been playing some of the best basketball of his career. Even though his team has been suffering and struggling, the 21-year-old forward is posting impressive numbers. For the season, he is averaging 14.8 points and 4.5 rebounds per game.
At the start of the year, Kuminga was seen as a potential trade asset for the team because of his youth, his growing skills, and the way he could help out just about any other group in the NBA. But times have changed and as he has gotten better, his chances of being traded have lessened.
Now Jake Fischer of Yahoo Sports is reporting that Golden State has removed Kuminga from trade discussions following his recent surge. This is a big change from a few weeks ago when it sounded like the player was dissatisfied with his position on the team.
Back at the start of January, a report said that Kuminga had lost his faith in playing under head coach Steve Kerr and didn't feel that he was being utilized correctly. Reports also said that the two men had a sit-down conversation and hashed things out.
Apparently, the conversation really helped because Kuminga has been playing even better lately. Even in some painful losses, he has been a crucial part of the team and has been performing with great energy and efficiency. The Warriors have apparently taken note because now they won't part ways with him.
That means they will have to commit to some other changes because conventional wisdom still says the Warriors will be making some trades before the upcoming deadline.
