The NBA world was shocked by the news that the
Golden State Warriors had inquired about wooing LeBron James away from the Los Angeles Lakers. Both James and the Lakers declined any sort of deal, of course, but the Warriors haven't given up on landing another superstar to play alongside
Stephen Curry.
The Athletic's Sam Amick is reporting that Golden State's front office is contemplating a few possible trades in the upcoming offseason, including one for
Giannis Antetokounmpo of the Milwaukee Bucks.
According to Amick:
"The Warriors’ lead decision-makers still believe Curry’s longevity gives them a couple more seasons of possible contention, if the roster around him is up to it. If there’s a path to LeBron, Giannis Antetokounmpo (their dream scenario), impending free agent Paul George or a reunion with Kevin Durant, they will explore it."
Amick says that Antetokounmpo is the dream scenario for the Warriors and there is good reason for that. For 2023-24, the Greek Freak is averaging 30.7 points and 11.4 rebounds on 61.1% from the field.
Antetokounmpo would be a monster acquisition for the Warriors but it wouldn't be easy. The Bucks are struggling in some ways but they are still one of the most dominant teams in the Eastern Conference. However, they could perhaps sign the eight-time All-Star if this season doesn't end with Milwaukee going far in the playoffs, which has always been Antetokounmpo's main goal.
The Warriors would have to give away just about everyone not named "Curry" in order to land Giannis Antetokounmpo but, in their eyes, it would be well worth it.
