When Kevin Durant came to the Phoenix Suns last season, it completely shook up the NBA and gave that team an even better chance of returning to the Finals soon. But before they committed to that blockbuster trade, the Suns were thinking of doing something else.
According to Zach Lowe, the Suns were thinking about signing OG Anunoby or Pascal Siakam last season, when both players were still with the Toronto Raptors. But although the Suns want them, no trade talks were ever series and they all evaporated when Durant became available.
It is no surprise that the Suns dropped all of their plans when they knew they could get Durant, as he is one of the best shooters of all time and a future Hall of Famer. But both Anunoby and Siakam could have been impressive additions to the roster.
Since Durant was traded to the Suns, Anunoby and Siakam have found new homes in the league, with the former joining the New York Knicks and the latter going to the Indiana Pacers.
Anunoby is averaging 15.3 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game while Siakam is putting up 22.1 points, 6.5 rebounds, and 4.9 assists per game.
As for the Suns, they are the sixth team in the West. NBA analysts feel the team could be doing better if it weren't for constant problems with injuries. Phoenix's trade for Durant didn't work out exactly as expected but he is still helping the team with his average of 28.3 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 5.7 assists.
