The New York Knicks traveled to Colorado to face the reigning champios Denver Nuggets in Mile High City. Unfortunately for the Knicks, Denver won the game with an impressive Nikola Jokic triple-double of 30 points, 14 rebounds and 11 assists. Prior to the game, Knicks head coach share some insights about how hard is defending the last Finals MVP and praised Denver's entire organization.
Tom Thibodeau is known for being one of the bests defensive mindsets among NBA's head coachs. However, he explains with great elocuence the amount of difficulty that takes to stop what the Joker can do on the court.
When asked about what's more important to take away from him, being the shot or the pass, Thibodeau answered:
"That's a great question. I think the entire league is trying to figure it out. When you look at the impact he's had year after year and where they are, you know...they play great basketball in a large part because of the way he plays. I think that his internal leadership is playing the right way."
"If you are open, he's going to hit you, he's gonna screen, he's gonna roll, he's goin to shoot, he's going to post. He creates good shots for everybody."
"Defensively he's clever, he rebounds the ball extremely well, he's got great hands, he's disruptive"
Thibs really pointed out almost every facet of the game. That's how great Jokic really is and it looks like he's always flying under the radar, despite all of his accomplishments.
"And the way they play together, I think the team is put together very well. They all complement each other, they all play through their strengths, and that's why they have the record that they do,"added the two-times NBA coach of the year.
"They've been a great team for a long time and then became a great team, they're a great team now. That's a credit to everybody in the organization," concluded the Knicks' head coach.
