After a promising start of the season, the Houston Rockets are coming back to earth. They've been falling down the Western Conference standings and, although they have talent, they still need a to learn to be consistent and they could benefit on bringing some experience. That's why they've been exploring the options before the trade deadline, and they very well could be one of the teams that make some noise with an acquisition.
Rumors have pointed to the Oregon franchise's. The Rockets are interested in two Portland Trail Blazers players going forward - Malcolm Brogdon, to make an immediate impact this season, and Robert Williams III, who is currently out with a knee injury.
Precisely, the injury issues that have plagued both players for years is why the Rockets shouldn't lose their heads in a trade with the Blazers. At least that's what Clutch Points' Jeremy Gretzer believes.
Realistically, the Houston Rockets do not have the team today to compete for an NBA ring. However, their roster is one of the most promising in the league in the long term, with names like Alperen Sengun (21 years old), Jalen Green (21 years old), Jabari Smith Jr (20 years old), Cam Whitmore (19 years old) or Amen Thompson (20 years old).
Others like Fred VanVleet (29 years old) and Dillon Brooks (28 years old) still have many years ahead of them in which to compete at the highest level in the NBA, so it wouldn't make sense to retrace their steps with a rebuild that looks so good.
