On Friday, March 29th when the
San Antonio Spurs hosted the New York Knicks, the Spurs won in a thrilling overtime game 130-126 behind
Victor Wembanyama's 40 point and 20 rebound performance. He made a game-closing steal to seal the victory for the Spurs in overtime. After the game was over with, Wemby high-fived a court-side fan and then proceeded to toss the ball in the stands.
He was then fined $25,000 for doing so and the question came to be, why did he toss the ball in the first place?
Victor Wembanyama on why he tossed the ball in the stands
After he was fined for tossing the ball in the stands, Wemby finally opened up on why he choose to do it.
"I know players have gotten fined for throwing the ball in the stands before, but they did it with bad intent. I was just doing it to make somebody's day."
It seems like he didn't do it for ill intent. He was happy the Spurs pulled out a big overtime win against the Knicks and with his excitement threw the ball in the stands in hopes for making somebody’s day, and for them to possible keep the ball.
Victor Wembanyama who has had one of the best rookie seasons we have ever seen averaging 21.2 points per game with 10.5 rebounds, and 3.4 blocks per game is the current front-runner for the rookie of the year. He is also in conversation for defensive player of the year as well was still fined by the NBA for what he did even if he didn't do it for ill intent.
