NBA Rumors has recently stated that D'Angelo Russell could be leaving the Los Angeles Lakers before Thursday's big trade deadline. Even with his superior output over the last few weeks, it seems like Russell might be packing his bags soon.
On Tuesday night, Russell posted a wholesome video of him watching a Dallas Mavericks-Brooklyn Nets game with his son and Lakers fans immediately started to think that he could possibly be watching his next team play.
Certain fans online dreamed of a scenario that had Russell moving to the Mavericks in exchange for Kyrie Irving, the controversial point guard who currently plays for Dallas.
While there haven't been any rumors of Irving coming to the Lakers this season, he has long been linked to LA, especially because of LeBron James' position within the team. Irving and James have a long history and deep friendship that has lasted many years and both players are still playing incredibly impressive basketball.
Just last year, there were numerous rumors of Irving moving to the Lakers but he ultimately ended up signing a deal with the Mavericks after asking for a trade from the Nets.
At the time, the Lakers brought Russell back on board to the team and they eventually made the Western Conference Finals. But for the last few weeks, it has sounded like Russell is on his way out. Irving would definitely be a good fit with the current Lakers roster but it's not clear if the Mavericks would want to trade him. They have publicly stated their commitment to the star and they would likely demand a lot for him. Since the Lakers haven't been able to put together a good deal to get Dejounte Murray from the Atlanta Hawks, it seems unlikely that they'd be able to appease the Mavericks.
