According to The Atheltic's John Krawczynski, with just hours left to reach the
trade deadline, the
Minnesota Timberwolves are stepping on the gas to acquire a player who can provide offensive power for their second unit.
In an effort to bolster their second unit, the Wolves are focused on acquiring another player capable of handling the ball and an additional shooter or scorer.
In this context, the team has been link with names such as
Monte Morris and
Tyus Jones. Notably, the Washington Wizards have expressed interest in obtaining a first-round pick in exchange for Jones, suggesting that the Wolves are evaluating various options to improve their roster.
In addition to Morris and Jones, the Wolves are monitoring the status of players such as
Dennis Schroder and
Kyle Lowry. Aware of their solid performance this season and the opportunities presented by a competitive and wide-open Western Conference, the Wolves are looking to take advantage of this moment to address identified shortcomings in their offensive and creative play, with the goal of improving their position before the trade deadline.
The Wolves are currently the best defensive team in the league, but they struggle in close games. Anthony Edwards is a great offensive player, although not a great outside shooter, so defenses can close on him and make it difficult for him to finish. Mike Conley is the only player capable of creating play for his teammates but he is no longer the player he was with Marc Gasol in the Grizzlies. Another offensive point guard would be good for them.
