The Washington Wizards came into this game on a 16-game losing streak while also having the worst record in the NBA. They were determined to put an end to this embarrassment and Kyle Kuzma led the way, carrying his team to a 112-100 victory over the Charlotte Hornets at Capital One Arena.
Both of these teams have had an underwhelming season for various reasons, and now they are in the rebuilding phase to prepare for next season. Charlotte has dealt with numerous injuries, most notably losing LaMelo Ball and Mark Williams for majority of the season, and their absence has caused this team to struggle. Meanwhile, the Wizards core has just underperformed. After trading away Bradley Beal, Washington planned to build around Jordan Poole but his first season in D.C. hasn't gone according to plan.
The best player for this team has been Kyle Kuzma and tonight he had another excellent game, finishing with 28 points, 8 rebounds, and 9 assists. Deni Avdija had 18 points and 14 rebounds while Richaun Holmes recorded 14 points and 11 rebounds. Jordan Poole scored 15 points off the bench while Corey Kispert ended with 13 points.
Miles Bridges scored a game high 32 points along with 12 rebounds. Brandon Miller finished with 21 points while Nick Richards recorded 10 points and 13 rebounds. Vasilije Micic had 14 points in his 32 minutes.
The Wiz finally put an end to their losing streak and improve to 10-53 with this win. They are in the running to get the first overall pick in this upcoming draft so it will be interesting to see where Washington finishes at the end of the season. Their next matchup will be against the reigning Eastern Conference champion Miami Heat on Sunday.
Meanwhile, Charlotte drops to 15-48 with this loss, remaining the 13th seed in the East. The Hornets are also in the mix for a top 5 pick and once they add another lottery talent to their young core of LaMelo Ball and Brandon Miller, things may start looking up for them. They are on a 6-game losing streak and will face off against the Brooklyn Nets tomorrow.
