Despite some negative headlines, the Los Aneles Lakers actually had a pretty good month of February. They won nine games and only lost three and had some strong victories over very tough teams, like the Boston Celtics, New York Knicks, and
Los Angeles Clippers.
Spencer Dinwiddie joined the team right after the NBA trade deadline a few weeks ago and has yet to really impact the Lakers in a major way. But he believes that the team is on a whole other level and can stay very competitive for the rest of the season.
“Obviously I’m not necessarily the best analyst of everything that’s going on. I’ve only been here for a couple weeks,” Spencer Dinwiddie said Thursday. “But, you know, it’s pretty evident that we have the talent level to beat anybody any night," Dinwiddie told the Los Angeles Times.
This week, the Lakers showed some serious signs of life against one of the toughest teams in the Western Conference, the Clippers. After three quarters of them falling very short,
LeBron James came to life in the final 12 minutes, scored 19 points, and helped the team complete a major 21-point comeback.
During that game, Dinwiddie scored 7 points and 6 assists. The very next night, he put up 10 points and 3 assists against the Detroit Pistons.
The Lakers were in a similar position last year and looked like they had dug a hole so deep that they wouldn't reach the playoffs. But they turned things around after the trade deadline and eventually stormed all the way to the Western Conference Finals. Is that what they will do this season too?
If the Lakers are going to prove Dinwiddie right then they need to start doing it as soon as possible. Perhaps they started this week.
