After revealing that superstar guard Allen Iverson was going
to get his own sculpture, the
Philadelphia 76ers ended the night perfectly as they
defeated the
Charlotte Hornets 121-114 at Wells Fargo Center behind their current
star
Tyrese Maxey.
The 4th year guard made his first All-Star
appearance this season and he’s in the running to win Most Improved Player. The
23-year-old is averaging 25.9 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 6.4 assists while
leading the 76ers to a playoff spot. With no Joel Embiid or James Harden, the
former Kentucky Wildcat has shined as the number one option.
He led his team in scoring tonight with 33 points with 5
made three pointers.
Tobias Harris had a monster game as well, finishing with 31
points and 12 rebounds with 5 triples of his own. Kyle Lowry recorded 15 points
and 10 rebounds while Buddy Hield scored 13 points.
For the Hornets,
Miles Bridges led the way with 27 points
and 11 rebounds. Nick Richards had 19 points with 2 blocks and Cody Martin
finished with 12 points. Grant Wiliams scored 13 points off the bench while
Davis Bertans had 14 points and 4 three pointers.
The 76ers improve to 33-25 with this win, remaining at 5th
in the East and sitting 0.5 games behind the Knicks for the 4th
seed. It’s a bloodbath in the middle of this conference as seeds 4-8 are all
separated by 1.5 games, so winning tonight is huge for Philadelphia. This
victory snaps a 2-game losing streak and they will look to build some momentum
on Sunday against the Dallas Mavericks.
Charlotte drops to 15-45 with this loss, placing themselves with
the 4th worst record in the NBA. Despite another struggling season,
the Hornets will look forward to the offseason where they’ll get another top
pick as well as growth from their young core. Currently on a 3-game losing
streak, this squad will look to compete on Sunday against the Toronto Raptors.
