Skip Bayless on Bronny James 2024 NBA draft interest: "If the draft was today, I'm picking Caitlin Clark over Bronny."
In just a few months, this year's NBA draft will commence and the newest talent in the league will be decided. One of the many young players who might entered the association is Bronny James, a USC freshman and, of course, son of Los Angeles Lakers legend LeBron James.
But there is a lot of speculation these days about Bronny's future. Will he choose to submit his name for the draft or wait until next year or beyond? A recent ESPN mock draft cast doubt on his future, stating that he wouldn't even be picked for the league if he was part of the 2024 draft.
There are in fact a few reasons why James would be smart to skip this year's draft and wait until at least 2025.
First and foremost, it would give Bronny a whole other year to enhance his skills and better prepare him for his time in the NBA. Right now, Bronny is scoring just about 5 points per game, but he hasn't had a lot of time on the court. Because of a very serious medical issue last summer, James only started playing for USC back in December.
Another year before the draft will surely let him get even better and, therefore, more attractive to teams across the league.
Secondly, there are several teams in the NBA who might take a chance on Bronny but for the wrong reasons. Instead of wanting to develop and nurture the young star, certain front offices might try to acquire Bronny solely as a way to attract his father.
LeBron has made no secret of his desire to play with his son and there is a chance he could leave the Lakers in order to make that happen. But that means Bronny wouldn't be drafted because of his skills but because of his dad.
Bronny needs to consider these things before he announces his intentions. There is a good chance he'd find an NBA home right away this summer but would that really be the right move?
