Many NBA analysts expected the Golden State Warriors to make some big moves at Thursday's NBA trade deadline. Instead, the Warriors only got rid of bench play Cory Joseph and didn't make any other adjustments to the roster. It was a surprising change from what so many insiders were planning for.
Why did this happen? What caused the Warriors to sit pat despite a lacking record, an inconsistent team, and dwindling chances of making the playoffs?
They Can Still Win: Perhaps the biggest reason why the Warriors didn't make any changes is because the front office truly does believe that the roster they have now can still make a push into the playoffs.
Of course, this will only happen if Stephen Curry remains healthy and impressive, Jonathan Kuminga continues to exceed expectations, and other players like Andrew Wiggins and Klay Thompson regain their footing and play better. The team will also need Chris Paul to return to the court fully healthy.
Kuminga: The rise of Jonathan Kuminga might be a huge reason why no major deals came together on Thursday. He has been playing incredible basketball lately and the Warriors didn't want to part with him. Additionally, many teams probably specifically asked for him, only complicating matters. In the end, Golden State was happy with the choice they made to retain Kuminga.
Draymond Is Back: Sadly, Draymond Green has missed a number of games this season due to suspensions. And although he isn't the most productive player when it comes to points, he is still a very good leader and can help lead the younger players on the team. Now that he is back, the Warriors didn't want to shake things up too much and instead hope to see Green continue to guide and lead the younger generation of players.
