As reported by ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski, the
Brooklyn Nets decided to promote assistant coach
Kevin Ollie as the new interim head coach until end of the season, following the exit of
Jacque Vaughn.
The Brooklyn Nets aren't having an easy going season. In fact, this situation has been the same for quite some time now. First with
Kevin Durant and
Kyrie Irving, then with James Harden's joining the team and after a while wanting to leave, and the whole issue with
Ben Simmons.
All those delicate situations add to the current, they are stuck in no man's land, 11th in the Eastern Conference standings, with enough wins to not land a significant draft pick and with a rather solid team that's been underachieving this whole campaign. Not a surprise then when they announced the parting of Jacque Vaughn and now, promoting Kevin Ollie as the interim head coach.
Kevin Ollie, a former NBA player, won't have much time to celebrate his promotion, since tomorrow Tuesday he'll be leading the Nets practice and will debut as Brooklyn's headcoach on Thursday night, when the New York team will be facing the Toronto Raptors.
Besides having played 13 years in the league, Ollie also had experience in coaching college basketball, winning the NCAA title with UConn. He hopes to bring this team back to form, and chase Atlanta for the last place to the Play-In tournament.
