Despite the Suns big 3 scoring 73 total points,
Trae Young
stole the spotlight with his remarkable play leading Atlanta to a 129-120
victory over Phoenix at State Farm Arena.
Trae Young is having a spectacular season, as he’s 11th
in the league in points per game and 2nd in the league in assists
per game. The Hawks have been disappointing this season which has led to some
talks around a Dejounte Murray trade, but the team’s struggles have not been on
the shoulders of the 25-year-old guard. However, due to the lack of team
success, Ice Trae was snubbed for yet another All-Star selection. While it
seems like the Hawks point guard will eventually make the All-Star game as an
injury replacement, Young wanted to prove to the NBA community why he should’ve
been initially selected, and he sure proved his point tonight.
The 2-time All-Star led the Hawks with 32 points, 15
assists, and 3 steals on 71% shooting and 7 made threes. Dejounte Murray had
himself a game as well, finishing with 22 points, 8 rebounds, and 5 assists. Bogdan
Bogdanovic provided a spark off the bench, scoring 23 points on 67% shooting.
Phoenix was led by
Kevin Durant, who had a spectacular game
as well. KD finished with 35 points, 8 rebounds, and 8 assists while hitting 5
three pointers.
Devin Booker had 24 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 assists while Bradley
Beal ended with 14 points and 10 rebounds.
This win improves the Hawks to 21-27, which makes them 10th
in the Eastern Conference. Atlanta is now 1.5 games behind the 9th
seeded Chicago Bulls and 1.5 games above the 11th seeded Brooklyn
Nets. Atlanta is 6-4 over their last 10 games and currently on a 3-game winning
streak. Their next game will be tomorrow night against the Golden State
Warriors.
Meanwhile, this loss drops the Suns to 28-21, which makes
them 6th in the Western Conference. Phoenix is 7-3 over their last 10 games and
will play against the Washington Wizards on Sunday afternoon.
