The All-Star Break is over and that means that Stephen Curry and his Golden State Warriors have their sights set on their next goal: reaching the playoffs.
Even just a few weeks ago, many people would have felt that goal was out of reach for the team, who have struggled all year long. But the Warriors have been looking better lately and have won eight of the last ten games.
Curry recently revealed what his team needs to do in order to reach the Play-In Tournament and, hopefully, the playoffs after that.
"It starts with just winning at home for us," Curry told Malika Andrews of ESPN. "We've always had a strong homecourt advantage. I think we're .500 at home right now so if we can protect our home court, we understand that we can play better on the road and play better against the top teams, we've had some tough fourth-quarter stretches that didn't go our way and that's the difference of being 5-6 in the standings versus 9-10 where we are."
Curry continued: "But if we take care of home court, we have 30 games left, I feel like we can steadily climb there. As long as we climb into the playoffs, no matter how we get there, whether that's the play-in or climbing into the sixth spot, we know we're a tough out. We know nobody wants to see us when we get there. We just got to get there."
The team is currently tenth in the West with a 27-26 record. While that is far from where they want to be, it shows a vast improvement from only a few weeks ago.
The Western Conference is very tight this year and the top four teams are only divided by three games. The teams right above the Warriors in the standings - the Phoenix Suns, New Orleans Pelicans, Dallas Mavericks, Sacramento Kings, and Los Angeles Lakers - are only a few games ahead of them. Curry believes that if his team can secure some important wins at home, they will have a chance to move forward.
The Warriors have just 29 games remaining in the season so they have to get to work right away. Their next game is against the Lakers, at home, on Thursday night.
